Tattoo Prep

How to Prepare for Your Tattoo

Good prep = a smoother session, better healing, and a sharper tattoo. Here’s what to do.

24–48 hours before

  • Hydrate & sleep: drink water and get a full night’s rest.
  • Moisturize the area lightly once a day (no heavy oils the day of).
  • No sunburn / tanning: avoid sun exposure on the area.
  • Skip alcohol & drugs: no alcohol or blood-thinning substances for 24 hours.
  • Shaving: you can carefully clipper/shave the area the day before only if you’re confident. Otherwise, I’ll prep it at the appointment.

The day of

  • Eat a solid meal 1–2 hours before your appointment; bring a snack & water.
  • Wear comfy, accessible clothing that exposes the placement area (and you don’t mind getting ink on).
  • Arrive on time and bring a valid government ID.
  • Skin clean & product-free: no lotion, self-tanner, or fragrance on the area.
  • Bring headphones if you like music/podcasts; it helps you relax.

Please avoid

  • Blood thinners (unless prescribed—don’t stop medication without your doctor’s advice).
  • Heavy workouts right before the session.
  • Sunburns, cuts, rashes, or freshly irritated skin on the placement area.
